A very moving interview with Mohammad Afzal Guru, who was convicted in the December 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament and was hanged at Delhi’s Tihar Jail on February 9, 2013. The interview made me wonder if all that is “News” is only a fabricated story. What the media publishes is probably just the half-truth. When I was younger, television NEWS shows were at specific times of the day and consisted of impassive news presenters who would read out the headlines of the day. Today we have multiple channels specially for news. Channels in every language airing “BREAKING NEWS” 24*7. But are they all giving us the information that we need or are we shown only the things that a powerful someone wants the nation to know?
An excerpt from the interview:
And I have an appeal to the Indian media; stop acting as a propaganda tool. Let them report the truth. With their smartly worded and politically loaded news reports, they distort facts, make incomplete reports, build hardliners, terrorists et al. They easily fall for the games of the intelligence agencies. By doing insincere journalism, you are adding to the problem. Disinformation on Kashmir should stop first. Allow Indians to know the complete history of the conflict, let them know the ground realities. True democrats cannot turn down the facts. If the Indian government is not taking into account the wishes of the Kashmiri people, then they can’t solve the problem. It will continue to be a conflict zone.
Our country is a political and judicial mess and each day, it only gets worse.
